Marilyn Hagerty to Dine at Le Bernardin and the Olive Garden on Upcoming New York City Trip!

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/forkintheroad/2012/03/marilyn_hagerty_le_bernardin.php

Grand Forks Herald
Welcome to the Big Apple, Marilyn

Marilyn Hagerty, America's most famous food writer of the moment, is planning a trip to New York City. And she's going to be blogging about her visit, which will include stops to Le Bernardin and, of course, the Olive Garden in Times Square.

She, along with Ryan Babb of Forum Communications, will be making the rounds, and will have the pleasure of dining at Eric Ripert's seafood-centric spot thanks to none other than Anthony Bourdain, who secured a resy from his friend. What a mensch!

Grand Forks Gourmet also reports that she'll "do another, five-star restaurant review along with a visit with Anderson Cooper to the Olive Garden in Times Square," and will appear on his show. And apparently talks are in the works to have lunch with Michelle Obama.

Marilyn, haters will always hate, but let Fork in the Road be the first to welcome you to the Big Apple. When you're here, you're family.

Le Bernardin is something else, I've only been able to eat there once but will never forget it.

Olive Garden at Times Square openly charges more than any other Olive Garden so it gets some points knocked off.

I thought the jokes made at her expense were incredibly mean-spirited. I have to say, I'm beyond jealous that she'll be dining at La Bernardin. Hope she has a blast!

Stock photos and storefronts/signage of national chain businesses. I shit you not... thats how they're promoting themselves to future residents. "Come to Cartersville, we have the same crap as everywhere else".

And we don't even have an Olive Garden (last time I checked, anyway). So Grand Forks is one-up on us.

I live in Woodstock. There is an Olive Garden in Kennesaw, if you should wish to eat there.

A nice elderly woman who writes about restaurants. She describes them as she finds them. If she hates a place she doesn't write about it. Cool.

Since my extended family here in the Twin Cities includes several people in their 80s, the Olive Garden is a place I end up eating from time to time. Sometimes, the food is edible to not bad. Other times, it sucks, but I know what to order to not be too disappointed. One thing I know, though: the old folks in that extended family like the place and often request it for family gatherings. Who am I to suggest a different place, unfamiliar to them? I know of at least 10 restaurants in the Twin Cities that serve far superior Italianate food. But, the old folks like the predictability of OG. They're fond of Red Lobster, too. Those are basically the two choices they make if they're choosing. It's food. I can eat it. The wait staff at both bends over backwards for the elders, so, I can't argue with their preference.

I do wonder how she's going to like Le Bernardin. I'll check out what she writes.

my taste. But why make such a big deal about a seemingly nice lady who had the temerity to write about her good dining experience there? That just seems like such a Romney-esque thing to do.
