Medicare fight is not over yet

Tone-deaf House Republicans are preparing a budget that will — again — protect millionaires over Medicare. As with their last budget, House Republicans are giving Americans a window into their souls. And the American people don’t like what they’re seeing: Republicans’ relentless, reckless promise to protect the ultrawealthy at the expense of the middle class and seniors.

Republicans might stand for those failed priorities, but middle-class families and seniors won’t. Medicare is a sacred bond with seniors that cannot be broken.

More than 47 million seniors depend on the Medicare benefits that they’ve earned through a lifetime of hard work. Millions of middle-class families are now paying into Medicare, so it will be there when they retire.

Medicare’s chief actuary warned recently that the new Republican plan to turn Medicare into a voucher system and let seniors fight the private insurance market will shift costs to seniors. He called it a “pretty important risk.” If you’re a senior struggling now to afford your health care, “pretty important risk” is an understatement.
