"Edward Snowden released the following statement via Glenn Greenwald"

<...>

Edward Snowden released the following statement via Glenn Greenwald: “I acted on my belief that the N.S.A.’s mass surveillance programs would not withstand a constitutional challenge, and that the American public deserved a chance to see these issues determined by open courts. Today, a secret program authorized by a secret court was, when exposed to the light of day, found to violate Americans’ rights. It is the first of many.”

Does he realize that the judge didn't make a definitive ruling, basically punting to the SCOTUS?

<...>

The judge ruled on a motion for preliminary injunction that does not require him to make a definitive ruling on the constitutional questions in the case, but on which side is more likely to prevail.

From the Think Progress link:

The decision was stayed by Judge Leon pending appeal and, therefore, has no immediate effect.

And all he was really concerned about was that there should be more oversight of the NSA. All this mess to pursue his dream of becoming a Libertarian hero.

you'd think a supposed constitutional lawyer would know this... but maybe Greenwald thinks his audience is about as stupid as Drudge readers.
