http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/03/12/442637/georgia-rep-compares-women-to-animals/Apparently, they want to ban abortion even in the case of the fetus being dead. He's advocating for women to carry a dead fetus to term, since he claims cows and pigs can do it.
Just read the article. I really can't offer any comments that don't involve extreme profanity.

(39,961 posts)I wonder if this idiot realizes the number of people that wouldn't be here if their mother was forced to carry a dead fetus "to term", which means "until she dies".
I'm one of those people.

(39,961 posts)They call it "losing their rights" when what they don't understand is that it's "you can't deprive other people of their rights anymore". They call it "upholding traditional values". Well, traditionally for thousands of years, slavery was legal, women were chattel, and people thought the Earth was flat. That doesn't mean we need to embrace those "traditional values".
That's what they mean when they say "take our country back".

(10,602 posts)Remember this war on women is just the beginning. Add up all the statement you hear from these GOP creeps across the country and you get an idea of the whole picture. Of course the men will still be able to philander all they want with impunity.
In the 19th century when women did not have the right to vote using contraceptives was a crime. It was illegal to carry or use contraceptive measures. There were laws criminalizing cohabitation and sex outside of marriage.
Give the GOP the power and we will return to that era. Plus women and anyone who even knows about an abortion will be arrested. And they will be prosecuted.
I know that a lot of women know how serious and determined this war is. There are too many women who will go along with this war and there are too many younger women who do not know what is going on.
The churches probably agree with this politician. And they also agree that a tubal pregnancy cannot be ended until it ruptures. The Catholic Churches stance is that a woman must always be sacrificed for the sake of the child.
I simply do not understand why no one is just going after these creeps immediately.

(39,961 posts)It's evangelical Christians, too. You would not believe the number of women in the South that not only put up with this nonsense, but go way further than you can imagine.
I give to you - women that wear no makeup, do not cut their hair and only wear ankle length dresses. You cannot go to a Barnhill's buffet (all you can eat place) in Mississippi without seeing hordes of them. Apparently the only pleasure they are allowed to partake of in life is to eat themselves to death.

(3,275 posts)Thank you for reminding people that it is the evangelical christians not just the catholic church. Evangelicals hold a lot of power and they are extremely conservative.

(10,602 posts)I was raised Catholic and spent 16 1/2 years in Catholic schools. I am amazed that they are so determined to inflict religion into politics.

(39,961 posts)Surely most of them know a woman that could have, nearly or DID die of an nonviable pregnancy. It's not like it's an uncommon occurrence. The idea that cows and pigs can carry "dead fetuses" is also ludicrous. Any farmer with a clue, and that cared about his livestock wouldn't let that continue if they knew about it.
This is the stupidest set of ideas put forth to the American public that I have ever heard.

(39,961 posts)is too elevating. We should be reminded daily that women are only good as broodmares. We have a womb, after all, so that means we are ONLY a womb.

(39,961 posts)There are some men that deeply resent the fact that women have the right to vote, and some loony women that agree with them. It's kind of telling that they are mostly white, straight, Christian males.

(34,136 posts)Almost all male cattle are castrated - only a few bulls are kept around to breed the cows. I don't know much about pigs, but I suspect it would be the same.
This sorry piece of excrement has never had a woman in his life that had to deal with a child that died in the womb or he would know how heartbreaking it is, even if there were no medical danger to the health and life of the woman.
My little sister lost her first child at seven months. During the ultrasound, the doctor realized there was no heartbeat. It took several days to arrange for the procedure to take that dead fetus out. Fortunately there was no danger to my sister, but those days were absolute emotional agony for her, knowing that the child she had wished for and been happy to carry was not going to come into her life.
I can't imagine how much more agonizing having to carry that dead body inside her for another two month would have been. I would consider that torture. And considering the danger of infection from carrying the dead tissue in the womb, it would have been cruel. And our family would not have the joy of the four children my sister eventually had.
Pigs and cows don't get abortions because their lives are CHEAP. Is that what this waste of oxygen considers women's lives?

(39,961 posts)No farmer that cared about the health of the herd would have such a callous attitude. What he's saying is that he has a disregard for life, period.
You can tell the measure of person by how they treat their animals. I hope he doesn't have a wife or children, because apparently, he cares nothing for anyone but himself.

(34,136 posts)Born alive, but a dummy foal. We did what we could for hours and when the vet said there was no hope, we didn't let him suffer.
His dam is one of my favorite mares. I probably won't breed her again, as much because I don't want to lose her as anything.

(39,961 posts)Glad you didn't let him suffer. That's what idiots like this guy would advocate "oh, just let nature take its course" even if it makes a being suffer horrifically - and those beings include women.

(10,751 posts)...but I do know that with cattle, the vast majority of the males are castrated.
So if we're going to use animal husbandry as a guide to our laws for humans... maybe we should encourage Rep. England to continue with that line of thinking...
Just sayin'
