I think one reason stands out, to me.
By talking and acting so loony, the media won't concentrate on just how corrupt he is.

(25,453 posts)And so the only way he can get the media to talk about him constantly is if he says ridiculous things.
By the way, I don't even have a dog.

(42,290 posts)He's so blinded by his own views, he thinks he has a chance of convincing the electorate to embrace his own hatred.
The problem is, he lives a a fundamentalist bubble, where no alternate ideas or views penetrate. And to him, other views are "evil" or "sinful".
He's a "true believer" and the modern equivalent of a Manchurian candidate.

(1,405 posts)He screams, he howls, runs around a lot, and throws shit everywhere.
Or he just could be looney. Like Lord Sutch of the Stark Raving Mad Looney Party. There is a longer version in a different town but boring.
BTW I have two doggies who are strong willed, strong headed and far too strong for 11-12 pound little white pieces of fluff.
Both of which are much less looney than Ricky S.
Edited for placing the longer version

(15,384 posts)His handlers talked about having to keep him on a short leash to hide the crazy. For whatever reason, his current staff isn't reigning him in, and the fundamentalist bubble he inhabits (that another poster talked about) and the increased craziness of the GOP base is giving him reason to run wild.

(25,183 posts)He's gotten attention like he's never had before in his life. Before January, most Americans would have had to Google up a picture of his face, and of course, we all know what they found first. But he's lapping it all up ever since his surprise win in Iowa, and he's just working like crazy to keep the ball rolling before he disappears back into deserved obscurity.

(33,688 posts)he actually believes every batshit insane thing he says, truly and sincerely. He's crazier than a shithouse mouse, but to the reichwing faithful that only makes him more "authentic" and appealing because they're just as deranged as he is.
