Why is Santorum acting so loony?

I think one reason stands out, to me.

By talking and acting so loony, the media won't concentrate on just how corrupt he is.

He's so blinded by his own views, he thinks he has a chance of convincing the electorate to embrace his own hatred.

The problem is, he lives a a fundamentalist bubble, where no alternate ideas or views penetrate. And to him, other views are "evil" or "sinful".

He's a "true believer" and the modern equivalent of a Manchurian candidate.
