Maine Republican: Health plans shouldn’t be required to cover pap smears.

We reported last weekthat Rep. Lance Harvell (R-Farmington) suggested that health insurance plans should not be required to cover pap smears.

"Why should my 20-year-old son have to get a mandate for insurance that would require him to have a pap smear?

Why would someone without children, need insurance for autistic children?

Why should the youth of this state, whose median age is now over 46 and not in very good health, be required to continually fund what they have not been responsible with the only thing that God has given them perhaps: good health. This is really what this is about."

I'm sure your 20 year old son will probably do something stupid and wind up in the emergency room at least once in his life. (Men do engage in riskier behavior than women and get injured more often) so it'll all even out.

America's educational system sure isn't churning out very bright publicly-elected lawmakers.

Yes those young people will never get old and need that coverage themselves. That's as smart as Paul Ryan's don't worry old people we won't change your medicare just your grandkids. Just more class warfare, trying to get the old to sell out the young and the young the old. Divide and conquer Rethug politics as usual.

why can't women and old people just die already? Genius thinking right there.

other than that, they are hateful misogynists who have no problem with women dying from uterine or cervical cancer. clue you fuckers: women's parts are different than yours, and we need different types of test to keep us healthy, stupid m.f.s

why should i have to pay into this cretin's social security and medicare? I'm not using it right now...
Why should any of my tax dollars go towards federal highway funds for Maine? after all I don't live in that state. Do these Randians-on-steroids not understand that sometimes acting altruistically IS in your own best interest?

Jesus this guy is an elected official. I don't know how much more stupidity I can take.

On the bright side maybe someone can convince him that those prostate exams he gets every year shouldn't be covered, after all... "why should some 20 year old kid have a mandate for insurance that would require him to get a prostate exam"?

Fuck, just rewriting that sentence lowered my IQ a couple points.

12. Why should my health plan cover prostate exams
Mon Mar 12, 2012, 11:56 PM

and prostate treatments when I don't have a prostate? I don't care if some man's prostate has a problem. In fact, I don't think I should have to pay for testicular issues or penis problems, since I don't have one and I'm not particularly interested in whether they are healthy or not.

Seriously - this is what the conversation on the right has dwindled down to?

No. What this is about is ginning up discontent with health plans covering anything. As long as health insurance companies can decide not to cover this, that and the other thing while still charging exorbitant premiums, the lobbyists and their paid mouth pieces are happy.

Republicans are going to discover that women have gotten very fed up with all of this targeting of women's health care.

pap smears ARE NOT 100%, (Lord knows mine weren't), they do save lives. Tell you what, Harvell, I don't want to pay for B.D. meds seeing as how I don't have a "D." and my husband's wing wong works just fine, thank you very much. Pay out of your own pocket for you levitra, cialis and viagra! Ya moron!
