Fri Dec 13, 2013, 07:21 PM
Dec 2013

In janitor closets. With Columbine I knew a lot of the kids. And the ATF & FBI agents in charge at the scene, one of whom had a son inside.

I'm so happy this one ended quickly and without large numbers of dead students/teachers. With Columbine the kids who weren't hurt physically were scarred emotionally just because they had to hide for so many hours. Most people don't realize just how many were still alive in that school, some right alongside their dead friends. Others alone or with 1 or 2 others in tiny cabinets or closets, anywhere they could squeeze themselves into.

They've never been the same. An event like that changes a person for life, even though life goes on.

Dec 2013

Those who voted for these recalls, and those right-wing groups that pushed for these recalls, have blood on their hands. They need to roast in a hell I don't actually believe in. Short of that, they need to have blame laid directly at their feet, and they need to be made to understand that they're unacceptable in our society.

My sense was that much of the recall was driven from out of Senate District 19. It was mostly driven by money and people who did not even have the right to vote in that districts. Most of the signers were white crackers. A good number of them were low income people who are angry at taxes and being broke. There are a lot of deeply racist pockets in that district. Faith Bible Chapel, the local nut case church supported the recall from what we know.

Something is wrong when you cannot pass sensible legislation and are recalled for it. And the rumor is that a new recall of the new appointee is planned. But you have to wait 6 months otherwise we would be on the street by January. The recoilers are saying recall is the new normal.

One has a gunshot wound and is in a condition described as serious, the other has a minor injury which may not have been a gunshot wound, per whoever was doing the press conference (somebody from the PD I think.) Both are students.

Nothing that might make a pump-action shotgun "military style" has anything to do with how the weapon actually functions: folding stocks, accessory rails, plastic stock instead of wood, etc. They tend to have shorter barrels, and since magazine capacity is directly tied to barrel length on a pump shotgun (the shells go in a tube underneath the barrel, which for obvious reasons can't extend past the muzzle), they don't tend to carry more ammo. The basic gun remains exactly the same as the one Uncle Bill shoots at ducks with.

C'mon, give us one more chorus of that "You Can't Get Emotional About School Shootings" rag. And really put yourselves into it, given that tomorrow is the first anniversary of the Newtown massacre. Afterwards, you can pat yourselves on the backs about the sort of society you've helped to create, the one the rest of us have to live in.....
