Posted by GOBUCKS: All he wants to talk about is some ratty old theater in Omaha.
Preservationists and theater lovers kicked in a couple hundred bucks in less than 24 hours thanks to the above comment. I appreciate everything the dwellers are doing to help me raise $ to win in November!
Somebody finally literally made them pay for something they said.

Steve

(21,758 posts)Cowardly little teabaggers that have found an outlet for their blatant racism and homophobia on the internet. They live to follow whatever we post here and then spout off whatever their corporate masters tell them to about it. They lack the wit or mental capacity to understand reality or come to their own conclusions about anything, simply parroting whatever the weeks talking point is from fox news. A sad and pathetic handful of losers really.

While Steve is out there running for office, taking care of his family members, and working 'round the community, the ringleader of the cave dwellers channels Limbaugh and calls himself a "skilled agent provocateur."

(50,130 posts)I'm surprised they picked it up so quickly, this being Monday night (when cave dwellers usually are busy cleaning crumbs out of the computer keyboard with the big toenail saved for just that purpose).

(21,758 posts)Creepy little turds do nothing but watch DU. I looked over there once and a more fucked up handful of kiddies I've never seen. The weirdest part was that not a one of them thinks there is anything... odd, about stalking strangers on the internet. They all seem to feel what they do is perfectly normal. Some seriously creepy ass shit.

(31,464 posts)No one in any corporation would give a shit about them. They are the stupidest of the stupid, and the whole site gets less traffic in a week than DU gets in a month of Sundays. Their "Breaking News" section is mostly 6-month old celebrity gossip. They pretend to have other forums other than the "I Love To Hate DU" forum, but everyone knows it's a joke. Some Ted Kaczynski type dude living in a rented farmhouse in Nebraska runs the place. He's a total loner, always talks about himself in the third person, while the other stalkers grovel at his digital feet, enamored at every word he posts. "OS," as they call Steve, is their current favorite, when they're not getting hard-ons for Nadin. Truly, the twelve posters there are some of the most ridiculous, ignorant, extremist fools I've ever encountered. They make Freeperville and Yahoo message boards look like a discussion between MIT graduates.

What is funny is that we all used to be annoyed... now they are a running joke... except for what they did to Stephen... that is when they were no longer funny.

(31,464 posts)Not for my sake...they gave up on me long ago because I wouldn't do what Steve is doing; I wouldn't spar with them. They love the validation they get when one of us talks about them. I admit, I'm going there now, but they'll have to decide -- do we acknowledge him again? Or ignore him? But if we ignore him, then we acknowledge that we ignored him! DOH! What to do!
"OS" is directly sparring with them, which you've done a few times, too. He'd be way better off just pretending they're not there. That drives them nuts, and makes Frank imagine more stories about us, which he posts as well-researched facts for the other 11 people to go gaga over. It's the only thing that gives them any entertainment, and gives Frankie a reason to drive to town to log onto the computer at the town library. Then he heads back to the rented one-room farmhouse and talks to the walls. Which, ironically, can't hear him any more than he can hear them talking to him in third person.
I'm amazed that anyone finds value in paying for the monthly TypePad bill to keep that shit hole running. At least, with the amount of traffic they get, it can't be costing Frank more than a basic GoDaddy hosting account. Hell, he can raise that each month by selling a couple of his chickens and putting in ten minutes at the Mobil station glory hole.

(154,021 posts)could, in the right circumstances, be actually funny... in a tragic way.
I mostly laugh at them, not with them. I know that drives Frank and the gang crazee. But feeding the troll is a danger all on it's own when it comes to them.
But at this time, they have become a running gag... which again, drives Frank even more crazy, if that is possible.

(99,662 posts)The lawyer that saved this building in the 70's lives in Bellevue. A conservative in his 80's.
He also was the lawyer that handled building the Indian Hills Theater. Bellevue is local $!!!
All they have to do is watch these documentary films I'm in: Saving the Indian Hills: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0378712/ & Preserve Me a Seat: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0852991/

(9,131 posts)The architecture reminds me of the old Louisiana State House in Baton Rouge.
I'm wondering if the same architect was involved in the design.
BTW, there is often a financial benefit to preserving the past.

(99,662 posts)Hard to believe they were going to demolish it after the UP dropped passenger service.
http://www.durhammuseum.org/about/history/exterior.aspx
In the summer of 1929, some sixty-seven years after the Pacific Railways Act was signed by President Abraham Lincoln, construction of Union Station commenced. Gilbert Stanley Underwood, a brilliant architect, designed this building in the art deco style and utilized a terra cotta exterior overlay to create a visually stunning effect. He explained his concept and the architectural approach to his design by noting that "It breaks away from the acceptable classical standard, and I believe it more honest and sincere than passenger stations clothed in garb of Roman temples."
Peter Kiewit Sons', who have continued their involvement with the nurturing of the facility, were commissioned to build Underwood's steel framed structure. After twenty months and $3.5 million, on January 15, 1931, the 124,000 square-foot building was complete. Union Station is reputed to have been the first art deco railroad terminal in the United States and to this day is considered one of the finest examples of that architectural style in the country.
In addition to the breathtaking terra cotta cladding, six railroad employee figures are carved on the outside of the building, each holding a tool representing his expertise. On the north side of the building, above each of the two main entrances, a conductor and a locomotive engineer can be found; the former holding a lantern and the latter a wrench and an oil can. Above the Tenth Street entrance a civil engineer and a brakeman are depicted. The engineer holds a transit while the brakeman holds a track wrench. "We have tried to express (through these sculptures) the distinctive character of the railroad: strength, power and masculinity," Underwood said.
Engraved above the north entrances to the station are two powerful quotations. The first is drawn from comments made by Abraham Lincoln during his campaign for a seat in the Illinois General Assembly. He noted on March 9, 1832 that "No other improvement... can equal in utility the railroad." The second reflects the culture of the Union Pacific System under its then president Carl L. Gray. His words "Dedicated by the railways of Omaha to the service, comfort and convenience of the people" became the motto for Union Stations employees.

I think that pretty much sums it up.
