FB friend, prof at American University, says they're on lockdown. Man with a gun.

Who knows what's going on but it's eerie to be communicating with someone in that situation. Good grief; what have we come to?

Sending vibes and wishing I could do more.

DEVELOPING: Police and school officials say American University's campus in the nation's capital is on lockdown after police received calls about a man with a gun.

That report came in to Washington police about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, but authorities say officers have not confirmed the report and so far, no gunman has been found.

The university sent tweets saying the campus was in lockdown. It urged students to shelter in place, adding in a tweet that authorities were continuing to search for a possible armed person

A hoax, actually.

People are so petrified about the gun thing that they're seeing things, at Yale they saw police with guns and called it in as shooter with a rifle.

I hope it's another case like that.

This time they caught a guy from Fairfield with a couple of handguns and a couple of rifles on the campus of UNH.

It's been surreal.

Sorry for abandoning the thread. There's a ton of fear out there. I clearly responded that way.

The immediacy of social media is remarkable, as someone upthread said. Reminds me of the craziness with the Boston Bombers and our running commentary off the police radios. I don't know if it's good or bad, but it is certainly remarkable.
