Amish buggy carrying alcohol collides with patrol car

Last edited Mon Mar 12, 2012, 02:11 PM - Edit history (3)

Technically, it could be LBN, but it's hardly of national importance. I just thought the headline was too offbeat to let get away. I know, I'm relying on stereotypes of the Amish.

Amish buggy carrying alcohol collides with patrol car

Four Amish youth have been arrested on alcohol-possession charges in western New York state after a sheriff's patrol car hit Amish buggy while responding to a report of underage drinking, The Buffalo News reports.

Chautauqua county deputies say several containers of alocholic beverages were found in two buggies, including the one that flipped near the town of Sherman. A passenger in the buggy suffered minor injuries.

Deputies said other buggies fled the scene, The News reports.

The buggy was hit after two of the vehicles switched lanes as the patrol car approached, the Erie Times-News reports.

Edited to add: the buggies might have been racing.

Alcohol involved in crash of Amish buggy, sheriff’s patrol car

RIPLEY, N.Y. -- A Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department patrol car collided with an Amish buggy as it was responding to a report of an underage party on Sunday at 7:15 p.m.

The Amish buggies were traveling northbound in both lanes of Clymer Hill Road in Sherman, N.Y. when the patrol vehicle approached them, said the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department.

I'm assuming that no one was talking on a cell phone or texting while driving.

your "vehicle", when drunken "driving", knew how to get home. May not have cared if you got "out of the vehicle" before you arrived ... and it probably would not have run over or crashed into any other vehicles/pedestrians ...

and teenagers are teenagers. Being born Amish doesn't make you genetically virtuous or anything.

A few years back a couple of Amish men here in PA were arrested for dealing drugs (I think it was meth but I could be mis-remembering). They had taken jobs with a roofing company and gotten involved with some bikers.

Then, more recently, there was some crazy guy leading an Amish cult that went around terrorizing other Amish by forcefully cutting off their hair and beards.

Abner Stoltzfus, 24, and Abner King Stoltzfus, 23, who are not related, were indicted in federal court on charges of distributing cocaine to members of Amish youth groups.

When they have their Rumspringa, the Amish form their own gangs (excuse me: "youth groups&quot ...

Eight members of the Pagans gang sold the drugs to the Amish men, who then distributed the drugs to members of youth groups known as the Crickets, the Antiques, and the Pilgrims at dances between 1993 and 1997, according to the indictment.

Loves me some Lancaster County, never a dull moment, seriously.
