Donations flood in after Catholic Church cuts fund to homeless agency

Donations flood in after Catholic Church cuts fund to homeless agency

Cynthia Hubert | McClatchy Newspapers

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The first of hundreds of online donations to Francis House came in early Thursday, just after midnight, as news broke that the Catholic Church was cutting off funding to the homeless services agency because of its new director's support of Planned Parenthood and gay marriage.

By Friday morning, people from Sacramento and across the country had contributed roughly $8,000 to the nonprofit group, and the checks and telephone calls continued throughout the day.

"We've been swamped," said Michael Miiller, a member of the agency's corporate advisory board. "The generosity has been incredible."

In addition to donations from $20 to $1,500, the group has received offers of volunteer help and pledges of support from ordinary people and power brokers, including state Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and Sen. Roger Dickinson, both Democrats.

The cash and pledges will fill the gap created in January, when the Catholic Diocese of Sacramento decided to discontinue funding Francis House as part of its annual appeal, Miiller said.

The RCC is so far removed from the teachings of Christ as to be laughable anymore.

Just another scam, fleecing the sheep out of their sheckels with promises of pie in the sky.

Man Behind the Miracle

Not all Catholics are as narrow minded as the church hierarchy.

What a shame.

It's a homeless shelter! It does not provide birth control, abortions or marriage licenses. The director's support of other causes does not impact the shelter in any way. They are willing to punish homeless, hungry people for this?? Are you freakin' kidding me???

The homeless being served did not have a religious or political agenda for being in their hopefully temporary state of need. To cut them off for religious ideology is against the purpose of taxpayers funding the churches to do charity.

The GOP hates the non-discriminatory nature of public social services for this reason, they thrive on division and chaos in the lives of the poor. Literally profit from it, in terms of cheap labor and making more fodder for their MIC sponsors.

They love, love, love the word charity because it's an ego boost. but more importantly, it's all optional. The'll always find a reason to not give to those they consider unworthy. They don't even know the Bible they have thumping, as the faithful once paid to the temple government to take care of orphans, widows, etc.

They hate paying taxes to the government while taking tax dollars for their churches. Their corrupt paradigm needs to be buried with the rest of their hatred and dogma.
