I live in a rural subdivision in NM and KinderMorgan wants to put a CO2 pipeline (Lobos Pipeline) directly across my property. There are thousands of acres of ranch land and they want to go thru the only subdivision in the middle of nowhere.
It's pretty bad as they are drilling carbon dioxide gas wells from underneath a granite wash at the St Johns Fields in Arizona and transporting it across NM to Texas for fracking. A rupture or leak can be dangerous because you can't smell or see it.
My whole subdivision is getting together to oppose this and we are going to a scoping meeting Tues - anyone here have any advise/stories about their pipeline woes?

(8,761 posts)and have spent the last 2 weeks researching every spare moment. I'm beginning to feel like an authority on pipelines.
Of course, they give you only 2 weeks notice about the meeting - hoping you will not have enough time to get the facts. We have an email ring to share info.
What we don't really get is why is the BLM running the show. The BLM released one document to us but refuse to release part 2.
We got the Sierra Club involved to help us get part 2.
Thanks for the good luck wishes!!

(28,394 posts)I can empathize. We are the only ones in our rural "neighborhood" to refuse to sign a lease for fracking. And there is a natural gas pipeline going through here, only a couple of miles away. Sunoco is acquiring their land by eminent domain! The property owners got attorneys, but the case is on-going. It's not going to be easy.
Good luck to you and your neighbors.

(8,761 posts)Two of my neighbors are lawyers which helps - but in NM they can acquire by eminent domain.
Thanks!!
