[Nebraska] DMV to recall man’s license after caller’s request

OMAHA, Neb. —A Nebraska man will lose his right to drive Wednesday because someone called the Department of Motor Vehicles asking the state to recall his license.

The DMV said it received 751 calls in 2012, asking it to recall someone’s license. Recently, someone called to have Kevin Petersen’s license recalled after he passed out and crashed into a pole near 120th and Pacific streets. The caller blamed Petersen's past epileptic seizures.

“I've had four (epileptic seizures) total. The last one I had that was an actual epileptic seizure was on April 13, 2008,” Petersen said.

The DMV sent Petersen a recall notice even though Petersen claims his doctors said dehydration caused him to pass out behind the wheel.

7. I would think a police report was filed, with some indication of the cause.

I don't think a private citizen's demand, in and of itself, would be enough to get a driving license taken away.

Warrants the investigation...all he has to do is be cleared by a doctor and show he is capable of operating a motor vehicle safely. Not a big deal.

6. I think seizures are supposed to be an automatic DQ for a driver's license

It sounds like he shouldn't have had one to begin with.
