You definitely dont hear a story like this every day. In Western Australias remote Kimberley region, park rangers were perplexed when their motion-sensor camera went missing at a gorge on the Margaret River earlier this year in May. They had set up the camera to capture footage of fresh-water crocs, reports ABC Australia. What they didnt expect was to see a mini-wildlife film shot in-flight footage taken by one young and mischievous sea eagle. The eagle even tried to eat the camera, in the process taking several selfies.
A parks and wildlife ranger found the missing camera just a few weeks ago at the Mary River, nearly 70 miles away. According to ABC Australia, the rangers were able to extract three 30-second clips of the sea eagles self-made wildlife film. One of the clips, available below, shows the young eagle scooping up the camera and taking flight. It was pretty amazing because its one of the first camera traps to ever get picked up, Gooniyandi ranger Roneil Skeen told ABC Australia. Theyve had camera traps moved [by animals] before, but not taken off, like a flying camera you know? It was pretty cool so we were pretty shocked.
Below, check out some of the cool in-flight footage courtesy of the young sea eagle.
