Dozens of whales beach themselves in the Everglades

EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK, Fla. (WSVN) -- Officials are working to rescue dozens of beached whales found in Everglades National Park.

The short finned pilot whales were discovered Tuesday around 2 p.m. by a fisherman near Highland Beach, which is on the west side of Everglades National Park. "We found 20 to 30 whales in the water confused and about 10 that had beached themselves," said Everglades National Park spokesperson Linda Friar. "Three to four of those whales died and the other whales we were able to get back into the water."

Wednesday morning, 7 Skyforce captured the whales in shallow water, very close to the beach.

Friar said park rangers, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration will be assisting in rescuing the whales. "Marine biologists will go out with the team today to figure out a way to steer them away from the beach," said Friar. "They think that they will get most of them to move on. It may take a few days."

I guess they were either chasing food or they were running from something. All the oil and chemicals might have mutated a squid into a huge leviathan in the dead zone in the gulf. It sits on the bottom and eats whales and other large sea creatures all day.

but there are many odd sea creature issues going on now that seem related though it's hard to prove.
