Is the reason so many GOPers are against peace with Iran because they don't want

Oil prices to fall when Iran starts to export like gangbusters? Does this make Keystone pipeline less feasible because that tar sands oil needs high oil prices to make it economically feasible? Is the average GOP congress critter aware that this is partly why they are against peace in Iran?

I do believe Obama knows what hes doing too.
What I see is the pukes are against any and all things obama no matter if it was their idea to begin with. If they think for a second that Obama is for something they're automatically against it from that point going forward.

Most people - on the left as well as the right - don't hold their political positions because they've reasoned to them from first principles, they hold them because those positions are gang badges. Politics isn't like academic philosophy, it's like a conflict between fans of rival sports teams.

And, at the moment, "anti-Iran" is a right wing gang badge, and hence a negotiated peace - especially one negotiated by an "enemy player" - is anathema.

The flip side is that posts on DU attempting to minimise or downplay just how appalling the Iranian government really is are not as rare as I'd like, for the same reason.

I see no evidence that people were, on average, better at thinking at any time or place in the past than they are at present.

Remember that everything you've ever read was written by someone who could write well enough for their work to stand the test of time, and such people are not a representative sample.

People are not necessarily more intelligent today than they have been in the past, but they're so much better informed that it makes a significant difference.

If you want to raise the average level of intellectual ability in a country, the best approach is to raise the amount spent on education, obviously. But, because there are so many children, you need to spend quite a lot of money per adult for a fairly small gain. It's still well worth it, though.

acquiring nuclear weapons far, far less likely - although there is no actual evidence that they were even currently working on it. Still, as long as long as Iran was under threat of possible imminent massive military attack - they would have every incentive to acquire a nuclear deterrent. I have been critical of the Obama Administration on some things and supportive on others. But of all his actions he has taken and not taken - by joining with the free and democratic world in foiling the neoconservative conspiracy to launch war against Iran is his finest hour.

"I think of war with Iran as the ending of America's present role in the world. Iraq may have been a preview of that, but it's still redeemable if we get out fast. In a war with Iran, we'll get dragged down for 20 or 30 years. The world will condemn us. We will lose our position in the world."

13. Because we aren't blowing things up and killing people

Since the Reagan Admin. the only path to solve "diplomatic problems" has involved the use of cruise missles. Anything less is "surrender monkey" territory.

"Peace" is only for those who lack the strength of conviction needed to arbitrarily blow things up and start killing random people to make a point. (in short "surrender monkeys&quot

On the right, it is simply not "manly" to solve problems without bombing a few things first.
