and nobody even blinked. It was hilarious.
If Bashir had smirked a little after his comment it prolly wouldn't have gotten this much traction.

He said something that was interpreted as tasteless, if historically accurate as an allusion.

That's not grounds for suspension.

Palin incited a shooting of a Congresswoman. nobody held that trick accountable. If anything I get tired of the right wing and some around here tossing the word slavery around like its some mythical story. And far as I am concerned shit comes out her mouth so she may be eating it already!!!!!! And we must placate the right wing because of what??? That nice stuff hasn't gotten us very far.

as I said in another thread about this.
If they schooled him they would say so publicly, yelling it even, to suck up to the RW fringe.
Like they did to David Shuster.

I believe last year at this same time over Thanksgiving Martin Bashir was also off for two weeks.

but suspending him even after he apologized for his comments does sound extreme, especially when one thinks about all the offensive comments that RW mouthpieces make, but apparently get a pass on (for example, Rush's radio show is still on the air after 25+ years and tons of bigoted and misogynist remarks). I think there is a double-standard when it comes to the type of comments that prominent people on our side of the aisle can get away with versus those on the Right, but I think with the Right, their supporters usually are more forgiving of these types of comments. They seem to either be OK with them and don't care, or agree wholeheartedly.
