Now that the kid is old enough to make up his own mind about religion or lack of it, mom goes apeshit.

She mentions the kid's confirmation. I remember my confirmation, at age 12. It was supposed to be a voluntary "confirmation" of belief in Catholicism. In reality, in a Catholic school, we had no choice.

She's horrible. If this kid's a minor he can come and live here with me and finish high school here.

I daresay she's an unfit mother.

it was in the basement of the Catholic church where a group of us young souls were being given instructions about the faith in a Catechism - The Church is One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic -class . A teacher-nun was going over the bit about how you were doomed to hell unless you accepted Jesus for by only going thru him can one be saved . I raised my hand and inquired about the kind-hearted savages in foreign lands who loved their families and never harmed another but never heard of Jesus, where they doomed to suffer in eternal damnation and burn in the pits of hell (may not be exact words at time, but it was what I was thinking)?
Yes, she said . Well, that got me to thinking about God,mercy, love, the whole 9 yards of religion and at that moment the Catholic religion just didn't seem to make much sense to me.
