(5,066 posts)Back when the american president was out it was mentioned he a liberal democrat was playing a Bob dole type In that movie.
The reason he played cheney In W was he was top actor who could play cheney who wasn't a republican and willing to be In film that
makes cheney look bad.Oliver stone wanted Robert Duvall for cheney but Duvall Is big time Republican.

(13,227 posts)I think it was an HBO movie about the assassination attempt on Reagan. Dreyfuss was excellent, and played Gauge as a raving, megalomaniacs lunatic trying to take over the government. I can see why he was chosen to play Cheney.

(18,124 posts)Tom Selleck played in, and dammit, Duvall and Woods just joined that rethug jerk. Oh I know there are many more, but I don't want to trash a lot of my movies, yet.

(53,235 posts)reason not to watch them, if you already do. He's a rethug.

(18,124 posts)not quite right about him. He never appealed to me anyway as a comedian. Don't like many of his movies. Now I'll not watch any.

(2,574 posts)Richard lives in my small city (Encinitas) I think...same Congressional district as Issa. I remember him on the red carpet at a recent Academy Awards going off on the Koch Bros. He sponsors a political literacy website & even went to Oxford to learn about civics.
I wish he'd go against Issa. Now that our district's demographics have changed to become more educated, I think an outspoken, well liked, known, funded and media sought personality like Dreyfuss could win. Even our pretty much monolithic conservative newscasters would interview and feature him...they are easily starstruck... so tons of free publicity.
Dreyfuss would be a national hero if he put Issa out.

(15,435 posts)One of the best actors ever, love him, his politics and his views. He's spoken out before, but not so much lately!
Love Matt Damon too, AND he DOES say what he thinks! Most of the time I agree with his comments regarding Obama, lame Democrats and his political activism. Heard Ben Affleck was thinking of jumping into the political game and running for something. Maybe just talk, but I would vote for him too!

(5,442 posts)Lincoln reminded the nation of our founding principles and so we carried on until those fighting to maintain slavery gave up in defeat. The ACA is the right thing to do. Let's just keep going until it works for everyone.

(9,610 posts)I do not buy celebrity. I do not value Mr. Dreyfuss' views over "random person on the street"'s views. I know a lot of people do value these things, or else these graphics would not be created. I view it as a sign of one of our society's big failures. We place value in that which should not have value and diminish that which should be of great value.

(27,817 posts)and he was great playing Cheney in "W"....He looked & talked exactly like ol' Dick.
"Mr. Holland's Opus" was probably his best film, a masterpiece, in my opinion.
"Run against Daryl Issa"?....He probably would kick Issa'a ass.
I hope he does enter politics.
We need more popular Dems like Richard Dreyfuss in political office.
IMO, if Al Franken can become a U.S. senator, then Richard Dreyfuss should be able to win a Congressional seat.
Thanks to babylonsister for posting this.

(27,817 posts)I've seen it many times....Dreyfuss played "straight man" to Bill Murray's "clown".
They both were awesome in that movie.
He was pretty good in "Jaws" too.

(31,893 posts)Where's the citation? When did he say this? To whom did he say this?
Anyone can post a photo of some guy and add an alleged quote. Why should I believe that Richard Dreyfuss actually said this? There's no link to a speech or an interview - there's NOTHING. Just a picture with some words appended.
This crap drives me nuts. If somebody said something quotable, then give me the damn SOURCE. Not some doctored image that proves absolutely nothing.
People are too damn easily manipulated!
babylonsister
(171,070 posts)a link to what he said, and will attempt to do so. Could be totally bogus, but it sounded so personal.
Someone said it!

(31,893 posts)It's definitely a great quote - I just want to know if it's real.

(171,070 posts)he was on the Piers Morgan show this month and said it. Video at link, and my sincere apologies, re: the source. It was either this or Breitbart when I did a google...
