He can barely leave his home, and his studio is in his home.
I'm not picking on Otakus (sic don't know the plural), I'm mocking a person that has lashed out against fellow Americans.
Limbaugh has such an over-inflated ego, he makes RMoney look humble.
I stand with the Otakus Except Rush. He's a dimwit know nothing screaming and tilting at windmills at this point.

The man is a putz who hides behind his studio mic.

(550 posts)I had no idea. Is he a shut in? Or just a big fat lazy slob? or both?
Without wavering in conviction.
I used to live in Florida, and it was common knowledge that he couldn't take a step outside without being "protected".
If only his "protection" allowed him to visit the hot dog stand more often.

Apparently he knows it too since he can't leave the house.
That's a really fulfilling life for everybody.
Oh, and I don't disagree with your other statements. He's a windbag.

(6,238 posts)Isn't that what Otaku means? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otaku
It has a cultural meaning, as well. It defines one as a shut in that cannot process opinions and delves into a fantasy world.
The term is nuanced. I'll just sit here and hope that our resident expert on Japanese, Kami, since she's awesomely knowledgeable about Japanese culture, comes along and verifies what I said.

(37,161 posts)That's not what it means here. Different location, different connotation.
If you want to your message to be received as you intended, then use it in a Japan-centered board where everyone will understand the context.
Here, it's just a bunch of enthusiast, and what you have said doesn't impact Rush a bit, it smears them.
If I insulted you. I was merely stating it as I saw it.
I believed that Otaku meant an isolated person that could get beyond their own echo chamber - they get so deep into anime that they forget to listen to the real world.
Am I incorrect?

(37,161 posts)Ironically, I've never described myself as an otaku precisely because I knew the original meaning in Japan. But in the time since then it's become the de facto fandom term, so while it didn't insult me, I did feel the need to defend a lot of people I know who are are either ignorant of the origin or think of it as irrelevant to the borrowed word.
It's not as if meanings don't change from one place to another (e.g., in Japan, the borrowed word pantsu refers to underwear, not trousers).

(37,161 posts)Here in the States, "otaku" is the self-selected nickname for anime fandom, like "Trekkie" or "Trekker" was for that fandom.
I'm well aware of the origin of the term in Japan, but that is there and here it has different connotations.
Here, it includes many gregarious, creative people, many of them women, and you are putting Rush's face on them.
Please stop doing that. Despite your explanation, your point never quite catches up to the impact of the subject line.
You are smearing good people. Please don't.
And I think the collective term is otakudom.
