TRENTON — A new poll reveals there's at least one thing New Yorkers seem to like about New Jersey: Gov. Chris Christie.

The Siena College poll, released today, shows voters in the Empire State would pick Christie over their own governor, Andrew Cuomo, in a hypothetical race for president in 2016.

Forty-seven percent favor Christie, a Republican, while 42 percent choose Cuomo, a Democrat — even though registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans nearly 2 to 1 in New York.

The survey also shows 63 percent approve of the job Christie has done in New Jersey, while 25 percent say they don't. Cuomo's numbers are a bit behind — 61 to 32 percent.

Meanwhile, Christie scored a 67 percent approval rating among independent voters.

"New Yorkers might like to poke fun at their Garden State neighbors — what New Yorker doesn't know a good Jersey joke? — but voters here like Chris Christie, the recently re-elected Republican governor," Siena College pollster Steve Greenberg said. "And it's not just Republicans."

I'm going to say it once more - I don't care what some 'pundit' says - I've seen the guy win a blue state twice. And he doesn't have to win every single Southern state to become a President.

We at DU are not 'leftISH' voters - we are aware, high information leftIST voters.

Just because we can see ALL of Christie's flaws doesn't mean everyone can.

If he clears the republican primary, he is a real threat to democrats.

His so called media image of "Bi-partition" can really win him big in "Swing states" , a blue state like "NJ" and of couse deep red south states will favor him only eventually.

Will vote for him before voting for Biden, Brown (Sherrod), Warren, Clinton, Sanders, etc. etc.

And I don't care what Rove is doing in the public eye - it's what he does outside of the public eye (stealing elections? Maybe a primary or two in 2016) for his very very good friends that matters. And he is friends with Christie.

Christie do For them? Did the pollsters ask that? People like his "brazen" personality--Are brazen, intimidating, spoiled child-like response to people markers of a good POTUS?

Geeebus--can you see Christie is a heated, tense international crises getting in other leaders faces like he does everyone else?

What you call a "brazen, intimidating, spoiled child-like response" is what other people call "plain spoken", "Blunt" and "no BS".

My theory is that they'll pair him with Susanna Martinez (Gov. NM) to curry favor with Latinos, or pair him with Condi Rice to address your exact objection -- his lack of foreign policy credibility.

We New Jerseyans come and go from Manhattan and Philly quite a bit. One of neighbors commutes to Midtown Manhattan everyday and one to Philly.

Commuters can kibitz all they want, but only residents really matter in an election.

But we in NJ are sandwiched between these two large cities - and everyone goes back and forth across a bridge. I feel more in common with people in NYC than I ever did in the Western NY area for almost 30 years. Seriously - Up there - I always felt I had more in common with people in Ohio and Canada than NYC.

Now - not so much. And (I'm guessing you live in there area too) - we get the majority of our media from NYC - and southern part of our tiny in terms of 'physical space/square miles) state from Philadelphia. We fall under those markets -and that drives perceptions. I'm sure you know NJ-12 is only good for bake sales and fairs and weathers - nothing major is coming down from there. And 101.5 is right wing wing nuts.

Cuomo is considered a potential candidate.

The real question is how woulc Christie do against Hillary Clinton.

I'm saying this as a resident of New York. Chris Christie has the name recognition thing going for him on a different level than Andrew Cuomo.
