I was reading the 911 reports and saw that my neighbor called in because my BIG tree has been snapped in half and is currently occupying the entire width of the street! The wind is so noisy, I didn't hear it snap and they can't even put out flares because the wind is so strong.
Fortunately, no trees, cars, wires or houses were damaged. The police told me the road commission will EVENTUALLY come by, cut it into pieces and drag it off of the road. And, I have the day off, tomorrow, to deal with it.
Down side - my garden fence was smashed. But there is an up side - firewood for next year!

(26,263 posts)They just moved back in, after a devastating house fire. Now I'm worried about the big maple and pine trees, by the house. This will be a sleepless night.

(13,360 posts)my friend had a pine tree snap off mid storm one winter, took out half the house...if the kids hadnt *just* joined them in the living room, they would have been squished. To this day, high winds and the noise from the crash still haunt her
glad you are safe, good one on the firewood!

(26,263 posts)Ironically, I planned to cut that tree down, in the Spring, because it's shading part of my vegetable garden. Mother Nature actually did me a favor. I'm just relieved the only damage was to the fence because had it fallen the other way, it would have taken out my little barn.
The Flint area was really hit hard, by this storm, but it sounds like no injuries - just a whole lot of trees down and close to 12,000 without power. At least (so far) there are no power outages in Flint Township. Of course, the night's not over, yet.
