I hear the tornado by Peoria was massive.
Luckily they are all safe and sound.

(40,416 posts)That's my county. We are getting clobbered here. Lots and lots of rain, high winds. So far we have not lost power. This is a huge storm of the likes I've not seen in years.
On update: calmed down but more on way. Widespread damage reported. I am fine here, so far.

(4,959 posts)It's freaking me out in SE Michigan. Usually big storms weaken by the time they get up this way but this one is just flying through at full force.
Ugh.
I hope everyone is okay.

(86,646 posts)I used to live out there and a few tornadoes ripped through communities right next to mine a couple times. I don't miss that part at all. And I worked as a relief worker down in Greensburg, KS several years ago and that was all I needed to know about being in a tornado prone area.
But no place is completely safe, a small tornado ripped through a town near me, West Yellowstone, MT ...about four years ago tore the roofs off of buildings diagonally across from one end of town to the other including the entire roof off a large Hotel, flung it about half a mile! It passed to the south of me near the divide, saw it from the window, I was inside hiding from the rest of the storm and about six inches of hail up here on the mountainside. The NOAA investigators called it a "microburst" but those who saw it had a different description and given that trees were laid out in all directions it pretty much dispels such a determination. Trees fell close all around my vehicle but none landed it, thank goodness!
I hope everyone out there is able to find appropriate shelter and stay safe!
