Barbara Bush's stupidest son.
A speech here or there, usually behind closed doors and very hush hush. No victory laps. No public service.
Wuddaya think? Drinkin' an' cokin'? Wallowing in self pity? Feeling the lack of love from even his former friends?
I always wished him a long, miserable life after he left office. Is my wish being granted?

(21,925 posts)the Republicans have been. The Democratic Party should invite him to their convention just to get on stage, bob his head up and down as he pans the room like old times, and emit a series of primitive grunts. It would probably be a stronger speech in support of Obama's re-election than any other.

(1,448 posts)"W" and Neil. Neil was regarded as the most stupid (barely escaping a criminal trial for his role in the looting of the Silverado Credit Union), but he is smart enough to know he should not be president. So, I guess, "W" really is the most stupid one.

(25,949 posts)Scared of those who would berate him publicly, scared of those he imagines would dispatch him to that great Chickenhawk Roost in the sky with extreme prejudice, and scared to travel outside the Neocon Empire lest he face arrest for war crimes. Tantamount to house arrest. Tough toenails, war criminal!

(82,849 posts)Isn't it odd that the Republicans have so assiduously erased their most recent party standard bearer from the public consciousness? They seemed so happy when George W. Bush was in office to shove that fact in our faces at every opportunity. Now, it's "George who?" and you hear more from his mother than from him on the issues of the day.
If I thought Republicans had consciences, I'd almost think they were ashamed of 43.

"Ha ha . . . you guys REALLY want 4, possibly 8 years of THIS again?"

(37,540 posts)It never existed. The only satisfaction I have in having to suffer with this clown as POTUS for 8 years is knowing that, in this age of the internet and digital video technology, there will always be a permanent record of the real George W. Bush. He'll never be able to have his record sanitized and reformed by image/media consultants...which I think was the whole purpose of his $500MMM "Library"...a place Dimson would never actually use. He will always be the standard for failed Presidents....I bet it really sucks having to live with that reality, a prisoner of his own hubris and incompetence.

(27,461 posts)DALLASSpeaking from his home in Dallas, former president George W. Bush told reporters Tuesday that when he's not busy giving lectures or writing his memoirs, he spends most of his spare time working on the manned mission to Mars he proposed in January 2004.
"This is genuinely important to me," said Bush, looking over sketches of potential rocket systems he had drawn up while waiting for his oil to be changed at a service station earlier this week. "I wasn't kidding when I announced a plan to get us to Mars, by God, and I intend to finish what I started. That's why I try to carve out a little time before lunch and after dinner to work on this important interplanetary initiative."
"It's a big project," Bush added. "Lots of little details to work out."
While in 2004 many critics suggested Bush's call for a mission to Mars was little more than political theater, the 43rd president has called those claims "ridiculous." Bush said he has spent many hours scouring the web for information about space travel and Mars, in addition to checking out "a bunch" of books on the subject from the local library and regularly e-mailing contacts he still has at NASA to ask their advice on his plan.
He also frequently watches the PBS program Nova.
