Howard Dean: I'm happy not to be the DNC Chair, but I'd give anything to be in the White House and kick some serious butt over fixing this thing.

(7,321 posts)The only declarative Howard made in this piece on that subject is that he's is definitely backing Hillary Clinton... fyi.

(13,616 posts)I expect the GOp to try and strike Obama's name of the walls, but what is sad is, the Dems will too, especially if Hillary wins.

(10,044 posts)I emailed the WH just this morning about them making you "Health Czar" in absolute charge, free of anyone's interference to fix this thing.
Hasn't Barack called you yet, Howard?
They should. This has only been my 10th or more request...
But the DLC doesn't like Howard. He's not businessy enough for them, and they're all over the White House (now tampering with TPP).

Rahm pushed the ACA, but where is he now? And he told US progressives we had 'retarded ideas'. Too bad there were so few Progressives involved in all this at the time. Had the President been listening to them rather than trying to appease Republicans who clearly can never be appeased, we would not be here right now. The irony is, as the President himself pointed out, Obama gave them so much of what they demanded, '200 concessions' I believe he said, wondering why they were still not happy, and how many concessions were given to progressives?
Maybe it's a lesson learned, be loyal to those who voted for you and you'll be fine. The rest, once you win, will have to deal with losing rather than being treated as IF they won.

Dr. Dean is being wasted for our time. He should be on the ticket.

(3,469 posts)Obama could say that this project is so big, it needs someone devoted fulltime to it. It would appease the fire-Sebelius crowd without actually firing her.(And lets face it, she hasn't done a very good job of articulating and defending the ACA.) Dean is a good spokesperson. He doesn't pull punches and knows how to frame the debate.
Best of all, it would change the conversation. I wouldn't call him a Czar, though, something more mundane like special project manager.
You should stat an O.P. with this idea. I really think it's brilliant.

(725 posts)name him to any post after all he did for Obama and the Democrats.
I still support Obama but his appointments have sucked for the large part, and that includes Sebelius. You haven't seen Sebelius out on the stump or defending/promoting ACA at all until now when it's in the dumper. She's useless in my opinion.
Anyone who's ever dealt with computer applications should have recognized this could be a monster and had people riding it day in and day out from day ONE.

(4,238 posts)I thought he would have been perfect at HHS, and didn't understand what made Sebelius more qualified for that position. He certainly couldn't have done any worse than she's doing.

(16,350 posts)Maybe I missed it, but I didn't hear Dean say that exactl, but what I did hear was really, really good stuff. How to fix this NOW and remembering what the objective of ACA is and how Upton and other proposals undermine that. Great ideas, which would serve Obama well. Take a listen. It's really good!
