on International Women's Day--
I truly did not get it when she was disappointed that Mr. Obama was the candidate. I was close to blind(or ignored) the sexist insults hurled at Hillary Clinton in the run-up. I did not hear the sexist language bandied about by those in the media.
I blanked out the sexist language-I expected it from the right, but ignored from the left.
After the past few weeks-I find myself finely attuned to awful sexist language and thinly veiled sexism.
But now my ears are alert and I am paying attention. When Rush calls women sluts, or Maher calls someone(Bachmann?) a "daffy broad", I hear it differently.
I think I get it-
My mother will most likely not live to see a female president.

(1,485 posts)I was really pleased to see an African American president. I like Obama and think he deserves much credit. I will vote for him in the fall. But the idea that the majority of the population has never been represented by someone in the top position is stunning. I am 38--I thought I would never see a black president. Now for a female president. We need to be ready for a shitstorm when that occurs. My cynicism says that I won't see a female president either.
