Have to admit, I love seeing the original sketches and inks of all the old strips, not to mention the political cartoons. Sounds like this would be a great place to visit.

Former Enquirer cartoonist Jim Borgman can’t wait to see what he calls the Cooperstown of cartooning in Columbus.

Ohio State University’s Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, opening Saturday, will display treasures from the world’s largest cartoon art collection – more than 400,000 original cartoons, books, graphic novels and comic books, plus sketchbooks, photographs and 2½ million comic strip clippings.

“It’s a dream come true for a lot of us ink slingers,” said Borgman, who moved to Colorado to draw “Zits” after leaving The Enquirer in 2008.

Ohio State’s collection was tucked away in a basement reading room after it started in 1977, when Hillsboro, Ohio, native Milton Caniff donated his “Steve Canyon” and “Terry and the Pirates” drawings....
