Polk couple punished boy with nine-hour kneeling sessions, deputies say

A Lakeland husband and wife accused of forcing a child to kneel for hours as a punishment for misbehaving were arrested on child abuse charges on Thursday, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies say Albert and Nancy Cusson, upset that the boy had been misbehaving and cheating on school work, forced him to kneel on a bathroom floor nine hours straight a day for 10 days.

The boy was given a protein shake each morning and not fed again all day, deputies say. He told investigators he was beaten with a stick any time he moved, and slept in a bathtub at night.

The boy followed the daily routine for 10 days, ending Saturday, deputies say. On Tuesday, the boy was forced to kneel again, the Sheriff's Office said, told he'd have to do so for 20 more days.

But the teen decided Wednesday he "could not take it anymore" and fled, deputies say. The Cussons reportedly told investigators the kneeling ritual is "the only punishment that works for him."
