Stephen Colbert on Eric Holder's Case for Killing U.S. Citizens
Earlier this week, Attorney General Eric Holder explained why it's perfectly legal for the U.S. to assassinate an American citizen without trial in a time of war – targets like al Qaeda-linked cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was taken out by a drone strike last October in Yemen. To make his case, Holder reached for a distinction between "due process," guaranteed to all citizens under the Constitution, and "judicial process," which, somehow, isn't. As Stephen Colbert helpfully explained last night, "Due process and judicial process are not one and the same. The Founders weren't picky. Trial by jury, trial by fire, rock-paper-scissors – who cares?" "Due process," he went on "just means there's a process that you do." Check out the clip:
