(75,480 posts)We will never make guns illegal anymore than tobacco or liquor, but we have to start making it hard to own and use them. First I propose taxes on guns and ammo that hurts, just like on tobacco and liquor. Next is prohibiting them in public places where innocent bystanders could be hurt just like the ban on second hand smoke. I know there is legitimate use for guns in rural areas and for families who hunt to feed their families. There could be license exemptions for them, but the issuance of permits should be under strict guidelines. Those are my suggestions. Let the flames begin. It's time for me to update my ignore list.

Dr. Fenton Ferguson, Jamaica's Minister of Health, has announced that there has been a 20 per cent reduction in asthmatic admissions to hospitals since the imposition of the no smoking policy in specified public spaces.
The ban was imposed on July 15, with the implementation of the Public Health (Tobacco Control) Regulations.
The regulations are part of the governments 2013/14 strategic priority focus on human capital development in relation to health care.
The Minister is urging Jamaicans to continue supporting the ban, noting that the country will see the gains in respect of a healthier society.
