Zimmerman juror says she's sold her possessions, lost her job, friends, and has to eat on the floor

Last edited Thu Oct 31, 2013, 06:16 PM - Edit history (1)

One of the jurors in the George Zimmerman trial said her life was ruined by the case and that she has doubts about the jury's verdict.

<...>

Shortly after the trial concluded, Maddy lost friends who were upset by the verdict and lost her job at a nursing home, according to an Inside Edition press released.

She said she and her husband have had to sell their possessions to make ends meet, including her kitchen table. The family now eats on the floor.

Maddy said she's now days away from having to move into a homeless shelter because she can't afford her house.

if she was fired because she *served* on a jury, that's probably a good lawsuit.

but if she was fired because of the verdict, i'm not so sure.

in any case, a lawsuit is a major p.i.t.a. and usually only pays a fraction of damages (certainly after legal and other expenses), and then often years later. and what do you do in the meanwhile? moreover, you can't put it on a resume, and in fact it can interfere with finding and keeping a real job.

The verdict "sucked' ... like, you I 'hated" it. The truth is, had they voted to convict the murdering scum Zimmerman, they would be getting the same "sh*t" just from different people.

I have no doubt being on that jury was a terrible experience

8. From the article:

Oct 2013
"On Facebook someone wrote that I'm going to feel the same pain as Trayvon Martin's mom ... meaning I'm going to lose my son," Maddy says. "All this blame was put on me. No one's looking at George Zimmerman. He's the one who killed the child. George Zimmerman should be the one to blame for this."

I can't muster up much sympathy for this woman. Her last sentence is especially galling. She HAD the chance to hold Zimmerman to blame, and she blew it. She can justify it all she wants, but she had the chance.

A hung jury and retrial would have been far preferable than that sham of a verdict that this woman agreed to, against her better judgement if you believe her. And if you're going to defend that murdering asshole, don't even bother replying. We have nothing further to say to each other.

though one could still argue that, at least as far as the juror was concerned, a hung jury might have been less damaging personally.

Cats and dogs eat off the floor.

Was she renting her furniture from one of those overpriced Rent a Center rip-off places and it got repo'd, I wonder?

She could go to the Salvation Army or Goodwill and pick up a cheap table, or a set of TV dinner tables.

I think there might be more to this story than she's claiming.

possibly after losing her job. She probably had a PTSD kind of reaction. Coming out of seclusion, hounded by everyone, criticized for her decision. Maybe missed too much work post-trial. She said she can't stop thinking about what she saw.

She should have stuck to her original gut feeling and refused to change her mind. I think she initially thought he was guilty. Should always trust your instincts in cases like this. Somewhere deep inside, most of us have a part of the brain that knows right from wrong.

they voted for as a juror. It works both ways if it's acceptable.

When I say retribution, I mean professionally. In terms of personal relationships...well, all bets are off there.

Though I suppose that is the implication. If she was, she's living in the wrong state to sue her ex-employer. She might win anyway, but Florida is a right-to-be-fired-for-no-damned-reason state. She'd have to prove they fired her for the verdict, rather than her employer proving that they fired her with cause.

I think it's terrible she is going through this, and her family being threated is a new low.
But why did she vote not guilty? No way in hell would I'd been bullied into changing my mind on something that life altering.

made worse by her "Even though I voted to acquit, I still think Zim is guilty and got away with murder" -interviews afterward...(if she truly felt that way, she had a moral duty to hang the jury)

None of the three(?) jurors doing the media circuit came off well...One was shamelessly trying to whore a book deal, and the other one said in so many words her mind was made up even before being selected...

to be honest, she sounds very weak, and very foolish. those could be additional reasons she is having the problems she is having. and perhaps the lawyers got some sense of that, and chose her for just those reasons. But she didn't have to serve. WTF possessed her to?
