Two Obamacare 'Tech Surge' Hires Announced

Two Obamacare 'Tech Surge' Hires Announced

A spokesperson for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced a pair of hires on Thursday as part of the Obama administration's "tech surge" to repair the hobbled website HealthCare.gov.

According to a blog post on the Department of Health and Human Services website, "dozens of people are strengthening and reinforcing the team we have working 24/7 to address the problems around Healthcare.gov." Two additions were highlighted.

Michael Dickerson, a Site Reliability Engineer on leave from Google, "is onsite working with QSSI, the general contractor, leveraging his experience stabilizing large, high throughput applications to improve HealthCare.gov's reliability and performance," while developer and entrepreneur Greg Gershman "is working with CGI, focusing on optimizing the site to improve HealthCare.gov's performance, and helping the development process be more agile so HealthCare.gov can release improvements more rapidly."

What does 'on leave' from Google mean? That he is working sans pay? Never should have hired CGI in the first place imo.

Issa Subpoenas Sebelius For HealthCare.gov Documents

House Oversight Chair Darrell Issa (R-CA) has subpoenaed Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, demanding that she give the committee a host of documents related to the website's troubled launch.

Issa is requesting any documents related to the website's technical problems, the testing that took place before its launch and any enrollment data that HHS might possess, according to a Thursday release from Issa's office.

“The Administration’s failure to provide answers about what led to the disastrous launch of HealthCare.gov and what is being done to fix it is completely unacceptable,” Issa said in a statement. “The evidence is mounting that the website did not go through proper testing, including critical security testing, and that the Administration ignored repeated warnings from contractors about ongoing problems.

Sebelius must comply by 12 p.m. on Nov. 13. Issa had previously asked in an Oct. 10 letter for HHS to voluntarily give the committee the information and in an Oct. 24 letter threatened a subpoena.

Borscht Belt Republicans

Has anyone else noticed how much the GOP position on Obamacare resembles the classic borscht belt joke about the two ladies at a Catskills resort? Lady #1: “The food here is so terrible, it’s inedible!” Lady #2: “And the portions are so small!” Republican #1: “Obamacare is slavery!” Republican #2: “And it’s so hard to sign up!”
