"Opinions may suck, but being that degrading of another human being is sick and in a way, bullying. You can not like him, what he's done, what he stands for, but to degrade a human being like that? It is unnecessary and uncalled for. State your opinion and beliefs all you want. That isn't an issue. But to be like that about another human? It isn't any wonder why we have bullying issues with children these days as bad as we do, they learn from the adults"
I've got a great kid!

(492 posts)But by using the "Obama, Osama" line, the RW both insults and maligns the President and trivializes the evil that bin Laden created.

(30,947 posts)was elected in 2008, a local newscaster referred to Obama as Osama, not once but twice. I sent a scathing e-mail to the station about it and said that he will be our next president. The reply I received was that it was "an honest mistake." Honest?! What a joke!
You have a very intelligent and great daughter.

(7,947 posts)Like people who also equate Bush with Hitler, or Cheney to whoever, etc?

(68,918 posts)Especially Cheney. He's horrible enough in his own right and doesn't need to be compared with anyone..

(7,947 posts)I see a lot of those sorts of insults on this message board. I'm guessing posted by adults. I'm just asking if it wasn't a Teabagger, involving Obama, and Osama, but instead a liberal, involving Bush and Hitler, would someone go out of their way to tell us about their kid's amazing anti-bullying response to those insults?
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)Is it something you like to do? You're making an assumption about the OP. That kid is amazing, and I would hardly call it "going out of one's way." Your response however...

(13,324 posts)I can understand wanting to take the high road, but the invective spewed at those two, here and elsewhere, mostly doesn't compare at all to the right wing's rabid hatred of Obama, much of which is driven by arbitrary (his skin color) or irrational (his supposed religion and birthplace, despite clear evidence to the contrary) factors.

Even Stalin... because he was STALIN.
And Cheney is his own brand of vile... but still not to be compared with any of history's other madmen and megalomaniacs.

(5,725 posts)Calling someone a "teabagger" is doing the exact thing you're (rightly) applauding your daughter for standing up against...degrading another person for their opinions by using a disparaging sexual reference about them.

(492 posts)who said she was "teabagging for jesus," wasn't it? I mean, I'm not making this up, right? You have to understand, they called themselves teabaggers -- and proudly, too! If Liberals and Progressives all agreed to call themselves, oh, say, "Monkey Butts" it would be completely appropriate for the RW to use that term against us. (Of course, Liberals and Progressives are not monkey butts. Neither are Teabaggers.)(Well, OK, Liberals and Progressives, for sure aren't. Teabaggers . . .I'm not so sure.)

How old is your daughter, OP? Sigh, I've got a great daughter, but she's living with a creep GOPer...they've both been divorced twice. It's like Family Ties in a weird way.
And I have a wonderful husband who will appreciate your daughter's wisdom!
