GA Republican primary: turnout lower; Romney gets 22 percent fewer votes

2008:

John McCain 304,751

Mitt Romney 290,707

Ron Paul 28,096

Total 963,541

2012 (with 98 percent reporting):

Gingrich 417,364

Romney 225,926

Santorum 172,473

Paul 57,125

Total votes: 872,888

That's 22 percent fewer votes for Romney. Overall turnout was down about 9.5 percent.

It's interesting that while voter turnout in GA was down about 90,000, Gingrich supporters helped to keep turnout near 2008 levels, which was not the case for Romney in MA.
