SANTA ROSA, Calif. October 31, 2013 (AP)
A 13-year-old boy was fatally wounded by a California sheriff's deputy before a second officer was able to get out of a patrol vehicle and take cover, investigators said, bolstering accounts of just how quickly the shooting occurred.
The trainee remained behind the wheel of the cruiser Oct. 22 while Deputy Erick Gelhaus confronted Andy Lopez, who was carrying a pellet gun that resembled an assault rifle, Santa Rosa police Lt. Paul Henry told the Press Democrat of Santa Rosa in a story Tuesday.
In a matter of seconds, Gelhaus ordered the boy to drop the weapon then opened fire before the trainee could take cover behind an open door of the car, Henry said.
The trainee's account bolsters eyewitness reports and dispatch records that only 10 seconds or so elapsed between Gelhaus confronting the boy and the shooting.

(18,115 posts)for a 13 year old to play with a toy, minding his own business. It is not a death sentence.
How do you know hat the parents' involvement was? For some reason you said they were raising him to be a gang banger. That was apparently base only on the toy he had, and his race.

(3,522 posts)Because I am fairly confident that any real "gang banger" would not be walking around with a fake gun on display.
They tend to prefer real ones.
You could argue that it isn't a good idea for a kid to be walking around with a realistic looking gun. You could argue that his parents should not let him walk around with a realistic looking gun. But to claim that his parents were raising a "gang banger" because he had a realistic looking toy gun is simply ridiculous.

(26,060 posts)GANG BANGER?!! Ask yourself something - if this had been a white kid playing around with a toy gun and an out of control asshole cop shot him 10 seconds after stopping his car, would you be blaming the parents for raising a gang banger?

(28,762 posts)answer my one little question that no one wants to answer, why did the parents allow their kid to parade around with a very real looking replica AK 47 and not expect there would be any consequences?
