Sen. Landrieu says she'll offer bill to allow Americans to keep existing insurance

- Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., says she'll propose legislation to guarantee that Americans can keep their current insurance even if it may not comply with minimum standards under the Affordable Care Act.

Landrieu's comments Wednesday came after reports that insurance companies have sent out hundreds of thousands of letters telling people with individual policies -- not obtained under group, or through employers -- that they must seek other insurance because it doesn't comply with the health's law's mandated coverage.

Republicans said it contradicted numerous statements by President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats, including Landrieu, that people could keep their policies if they were satisfied with them once the Affordable Care Act was implemented.

"The promise was made and it should be kept," Landrieu told reporters Wednesday. "And it was our understanding when we voted for that, that people when they have insurance could keep what they had. So, I'm going to be working on that fix,"

state. The state has many potential Obama voters, but a lot of those voters don't show up at the polls. Landrieu is being smart.

We need to get rid of the 'junk' insurance policies that do not cover what they should.

It is a good thing that the insurance companies are being forced to get rid of 'em.

Senator Landrieu, with all due respect and thanks for your service but go back to the swamp.

The foundational principles of the ACA are:

(1) Pre-existing conditions cannot be used as a reason not to offer health insurance
(2) Children can stay on their parents' policies until age 26
(3) No annual or lifetime caps on coverage
(4) Minimum coverage is required********
(5) Citizens can acquire insurance through a state of federal exchange

****** - we want to ensure that each policy provides some basement of coverage, especially preventive. It is only when we catch behavior and disease early that we can begin to bend down the cost curve of CARE.

Does she not understand the brilliance of separating work from health?

EDIT - oh nm, I see she is pandering to her constituents.

All this does is allow people to keep their current policy - They can still go out and look for newer ones.

If someone wants to keep their garbage policy, let em. Their choice, their right.

Really, this bill would put an end to the main complaint about the ACA - That companies are dropping people to get them to buy more expensive policies.

Edit - Forgot about workplace policies. This would be good for individuals, but it would screw workplace policies.
