(4,192 posts)He may have had an agenda for his speech but as president, he should be prepared to talk about the issues of the day, of which the pipeline is a major concern for many. Frankly, his response concerns me. Does he think the issue was settled last summer? I hope not.
Remember, these were not tea party freaks heckling some idiotic demand. This is a group willing to make some noise about a disastrous plan to pipe tar sands oil across the heart of the country. And all the worse... there is absolutely no benefit to the People of the US for this crap.
The President, who I do have high regards for, has not been receptive to the environmental community about the concerns we have about the Keystone pipeline. It is literally being shoved down our throats whether we like it or not. And we can't wait for the President to fit it into his schedule to talk about it since he's given no indication that he will.

(26,060 posts)but they were hecklers and if you give them what they want, they just do it again and again.....like a child having a temper tantrum. Everyone has their issues - why should the President stop every single speech to cater to whatever issue those bitching the loudest bring up? It's a stupid tactic and he handled it well.

Uh...fuck no!

(1,348 posts)What a ludicrous suggestion.

(16,184 posts)Because he's sure not inviting environmentalists to the White House.
Now I'm sorry he got disrupted for a few seconds, but he still hasn't shut down Keystone XL, and he needs to know people haven't forgotten about it.

(16,184 posts)Given all the oil spills since Keystone was first introduced, you'd think it would be an easy decision by now.

(8,361 posts)right now? It is still "under review" and people are free to make their wishes known to the president one way or the other. The GOP did by saying it was a conditon of reopening the government and paying US bills--then had their shot blocked back into their face. These people heckled their point of view during a presidential speech. Hope these people are happy. They got in the news!!! But it's still under review and he doesn't have to tell them shit about it.

(22,541 posts)are the things that get to be too much around here. Just my humble opinion, of course. But I believe DU would be much nicer without all the insults being flung around for no good reason at all.

(344 posts)This is why some are saying Obama isn't getting the word out about ACA. Some people would like to change the subject then turn around and jump on Obama for not getting the word out about ACA.

(10,044 posts)and he's thinking now about MA's health plan and the people who came there to hear him talk about it....
The pipeline will concern lots of other people, and they will come in great number when he is visiting a place where the agenda has not been planned. Don't forget, time is valuable - big game tonight and people want to get home and eat, etc., so he can't hold them up just to please a few people, even tho he may agree with them...or not.

(128,979 posts)Bullshit. This was a prepared speech on a specific topic of a law that is currently being implemented. Keystone is still under review.
If he were to talk about "issues of the day", then he would need to talk about gun control or even the Farm Bill, where if this isn't passed soon, millions will lose major SNAP benefits and milk and other subsidized food products will shoot up in price, but this was not the forum for any of that either.

(54,770 posts)Maybe the hecklers should have thought of that before trying to embarrass the Prez today.
Again, I understand the pipeline issue.

I agree about the hecklers, too. Well done, sir.

(29,067 posts)Sorry, but I don't see how refusing to address an important issue, even rightfully,
given the timing, qualifies as "brilliant".
Never mind. I suspect he could read from a phone book and get that reaction from his adoring fans.
