So, are we pretty much stuck with the sequester until we take the House back?

It's pretty clear at this point that Boehner drank Obama's milkshake on the sequester. Obama gave away $1.2 trillion in spending cuts, and got absolutely nothing in return for it. When Boehner said he got 98% of what he wanted, that was an understatement.

And there's no way to reverse it unless the House agrees to it. And that ain't happening. Obama committed a blunder of historic proportions when he assumed that the Republicans would care about Defense spending. The Teahadis, unlike the Neocons, are true nihilists. They value nothing.

At most, it seems we're left to try to rearrange which crumbs are available for which starving programs. There is no extra bread coming.

It's great that there won't be any raids on Social Security and Medicare for the next 18 months or so, but the slashing of discretionary domestic problems is still horribly painful austerity that will weaken the recovery.

Am I wrong?

We'll know for sure around Jan 15th, the next date the can was kicked to. n/t PoliticAverse Oct 2013 #1
The earliest we can expect to see the sequester addressed is 2015 imo. Omnith Oct 2013 #2
