No more Jelly Bellies for me........

.......and I LOVE those things. But continuing to buy them is a tacit endorsement of discrimination.

Et tu, Jelly Belly?

The chairman of America's lovable jelly bean brand apparently has helped fund efforts to repeal trans-friendly legal protections in California.

In September, Herman G. Rowland Sr., the chairman of the board of Jelly Belly Candy Company, Inc., donated $5,000 to Privacy for All Students, a coalition fighting for a referendum effort to repeal transgender rights legislation California Assembly Bill 1266.

The bill, signed into law by California Gov. Jerry Brown in August, requires the state's transgender students to be allowed to "participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records." ............(more)

Complete fairness in terms of innate physical ability is not truly possible in any case. Striving to achieve this illusory goal at the cost of denying full participation to marginalized individuals is a far greater unfairness. It is highly unlikely that there will be sufficient transgender students interested in a particular sport at a particular high school to have much of an effect, but even in the few outlier cases where it might it does not outweigh the injustice done to transgender students by continuing to relegate them to second-class status and/or denying their gender identity.

Besides, the point of any sports game is not to win or lose, but to play with full dedication and integrity. If rules of fair play are followed, and if all hearts and minds are in the game, the influence of bodies that may or may not be gender typical on the outcome of the game is irrelevant.

Forcing a transgendered young lady to use the urinals?
Gross.
If a girl wants to use the ladies room, and a boy wants to use the men's room it's okay with me.
Even if that girl still happens to have a penis I have nothing to fear. Girls use stalls any way, and there are a couple of stalls in the men's room too. They won't have to look if they don't want to.

Change is scary for rigid minded folks.

Oct 2013

Jelly Belly Candy Co. opened a factory in Thailand in 2007.

Sugar makes up about half of the ingredients and cost of a typical jelly bean, said Bob Simpson, Jelly Belly’s president and chief operating officer. Thailand is the world’s fourth-largest sugar producer and gives Jelly Belly access to cheaper sugar, labor and other raw materials than the candy maker has in the U.S.

Glucose Syrup? It's listed second. Best I can figure, Glucose Syrup is HFCS with an accent.

Jelly Belly headquarters is down the road from me and I learned to dislike the family owned business back when they were HUGE supporters of Reagan. Reagan repaid their support by introducing Jelly Bellies to the White House.

others (The bullies and cyberstalkers that operate with impunity on this site) believe that and have targeted me for ten + years for a character assassination and bully campaign. You have missed the point by a wide margin.

There are other points to be made, but suffice it to say, this is officially sanctioned policy.

There is excellent research on this by the way. When bullies attack the way they have, they live in their own fantasy world. I highly recommend the google.

It gets to the point that one gets tired of the shit and moves serious analysis off site. That point was reached. When I am even attacked on MY PROFESSIONAL achievements, there is a problem.

To sum up, somehow I became a threat to them, which is a characteristic to bully behavior, whether we are talking of "queen bees" in school, or adult cyberstalking and bullying. It is a characteristic, one chief characteristic.
