some nutjob moran parked his car in the middle of a busy morning merge area in i95 here in connecticut.
on the back of it it said something like "obamacare is tyranny".
he was just sitting there in his car, no hazards (though he did have an orange cone strategically blocking his plates.
he was not in a driving lane, but in that vanishing triangle area just as an entrance ramp merges into the main highway.
the size of the political statement and the strategic placement of the car made it rather clear that this was a political statement rather than a legitimately disabled vehicle that happened to have a political statement on it.
now there's some real stupid for ya. this guy is just asking to get rear-ended.
moreover, it doesn't seem to me very persuasive to make a statement while causing danger and inconvenience to your audience.

(52,229 posts)i could have pulled over and called, but i hate doing that because the shoulders are one-lane (actually usually not even that) and emergency vehicles (or obnoxiously impatient commuters) often come sailing through.
anyway, my working assumption was that the police no doubt have at least a dozen calls about this guy already, and he's probably smart enough to move to another location before the police arrive.

(66,369 posts)On my drive to work this morning, I was behind a car with this bumpersticker on the back: "People are only truly free when government is limited" - Ronald Reagan.
My first thought was: "Was the moon in the Seventh House when he came up with that one? With Aries rising?"
You know a Presidency is in trouble when Nancy Reagan is the brains of the operation...

(8,830 posts)would you have found them a danger and inconvenience? Since they weren't in a driving lane, how did they block your car? Were you planning on cutting across the solid line through the triangle to get a jump on merging?

(52,229 posts)but they were obscuring the view for a dangerous merge and slowing everyone down.
in fact this guy wasn't a direct problem for *me* because in 10mph traffic i usually merge late rather than early, so i was well past him before i merged. but he did slow other people so the entrance ramp was backed up quite a ways long before i saw what the problem was.
as for danger and inconvenience, yes, this is a terrible spot to stop and would have been a problem had it been legitimately disabled and without any political statements. i would note that it is less of a problem while traffic is 10mph, but at normal highway speeds this guy could have been killed.
Glad to hear you're not a jack-rabbit merger; that's a dangerous and anti-social stunt.
