Texas AG Requests Emergency Stay After Abortion Ruling

The Texas attorney general's office sought an emergency stay on Tuesday after a federal court ruled parts of a controversial state abortion law unconstitutional, the Texas Tribune reported.

The state already appealed the district court's Monday ruling, sending the case to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Texas is asking the Fifth Circuit court to temporarily reverse the decision by Tuesday night and move its hearing up to January.

In the motion for stay, the state argued the court took an "extraordinary step" in its ruling.
