and it seems to be working like a charm. All kinds of commercials on TV from insurance companies promoting it. I'm getting tons of mail from insurance companies as well. The medicare.gov website works great.
This is a tried and true system and it works and guess what - it's a government program.
In August I signed up for Medicare for the first time as I turned 65. I used www.medicare.gov extensively to do my research and ultimately to sign-up. It worked flawlessly.
I'm confident that we'll get there with ACA - but because it's a new program - we're going to see the glitches we are seeing now.
It doesn't help that the Repugs are doing everything they can to sandbag it and turn people against it. Certainly the states with Repug Governors aren't helping. And guess what - they don't like President Obama and haven't cooperated with him on anything.
I'm just surprised that I haven't heard any one in the MSM comment on how well Medicare works.

(25,253 posts)don't have to do anything. They have all your info and you get your Medicare Card for Part A & B. But if you want a Supplemental Plan to pick up the difference that Medicare A & B doesn't cover or if you want Part D. You can go to the Medicare.gov website and get that info from your state and zipcode.
I am not retired yet and not drawing SS - so I had to sign up on the site.

(13,259 posts)to sign up for Medicare. It is not automatic. When my husband I turned 65 (in the same year), we signed up and then we had a big party to celebrate no longer having to struggle to pay for our own self-employed health insurance.
Maybe we'll have another party next year to celebrate turning 70 and joining Social Security, even though we continue run our business. Sounds good to me!

As for computer glitches.... I wish the vote counting computer glitches got 1/10th the interest the ACA glitches have. Just 1/10th.
