Ted Cruz on Cheney Hunting Incident: ‘Look, It Happens’

When Senator Ted Cruz went pheasant hunting with Representative Steve King in Iowa on Saturday, he took a break to discuss the infamous 2006 incident in which former Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot his friend during a quail hunt in Texas, NBC News reports.

“Look, it happens,” Cruz said.

King added, “Doesn’t bother me a bit. The way I understood it, he was standing in the wrong place.” Later he joked of Cruz’s unpopularity post-government shutdown: “There are a lot of people who would like to shoot me and you, I’ve noticed. That would be a fundraiser to end them all, wouldn’t it?”

Perhaps the country would be better off if Cruz and King were both standing in "the wrong place" and fired at the same time.

2. It is so obvious Cruz and King are not hunters.

King may go out in the field and shoot birds but you do not ever carry a breech loaded shot gun open on your shoulder. Cruz who is not a hunter emulated a total idiot. I would be willing to bet when they did shoot King snapped his breech shut. It is typical of an idiot like Cruz to pretend he knows what he is talking about on something he has never done before one hunt.

Something about how Cruz was holding the shotgun and his crisp new hunting outfit
told me he was clueless.

BTW I am willing to bet Cruz went to a "game farm" where they release penned raised
birds prior to the hunt.

5. If they were hunting pheasant odds are they were recently released birds.

Raised in a cage then released.

My Grandfather would have banned me from hunting forever if he would have ever seen me carry a shotgun open breech on my shoulder. That is pure ignorance and dangerous both of them loaded up and and then dangled the gun over their shoulder. It ruins your shotgun breech and if you fall hard to say what will happen, also hinders control of your gun besides being lazy. Big Ed also noted that on his show when he showed the clip but did elaborate. It really showed what gall Cruz is capable of expressing.

For the record, as of three years ago, Cheney still hadn't apologized to Harry Whittington for shooting him, and Whittington actually apologized to Cheney.

Whittington was subsequently discharged from the hospital on February 17, 2006. At a press conference, he said: "My family and I are deeply sorry for everything Vice President Cheney and his family have had to deal with. We hope that he will continue to come to Texas and seek the relaxation that he deserves."
