Dear humans,
We can't help noticing that you left for work this morning without leaving a heaping pile of presents next to our food dishes. It also appears you forgot there are no dogs allowed today, and we had to lock them in the bathroom ourselves. We know you're busy with human things, like removing all the hair we painstakingly left on your pants. (Yeah. We know you do that.) But since today is the most important day of the year, we don't think it's too much to ask you to cancel everything and come home immediately. In case you've actually forgotten that today is our day, please refer to the photo gallery above.
See you soon. We'll be in the kitchen cabinet chewing through the side of the Doritos bag, since you also forgot to leave special treats on the counter.
Respectfully,
The cats

(21,849 posts)I foster cats for a local rescue group. I am proud to announce that last night a foster cat, who had been with me since January 31, was placed in a loving home. I am so happy for him! I was told that he has already adjusted and was even purring his first night in his new forever home.

(56,177 posts)I posted a photo (above) of the dumped tortie I took in last week...we're guessing about 9 weeks old...very sweet, still a little scared from her ordeal, though.

(146,317 posts)We got her from a cardboard box in front of a supermarket. A little girl was there, giving away a litter of kittens. My wife said, see if there's a girl kitty in there. There was. She weighed only 12 oz. at the time and was really to young to be adopted, but we took her. She grew fast. That first night, she slept on my pillow, right by my ear.
She moved with us from California to Minnesota and converted into an indoor cat without any fuss or bother. She's just always there when you need a cat to pet. Nice girl, she is.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Fortunately she got a good home!

(146,317 posts)I think she was four weeks, and so did the vet. She had to wait a bit for her shots, but did just fine with us. Our calico male, Butthead, decided he was her mother, and took care of her meticulously, too. He taught her all about being a cat living in our house. They were best buds, and Butthead moved here with us to MN, too. Sadly, he died a couple of years ago. But Scout's still doing fine, despite her age and deafness. She got a checkup recently and the vet said all the blood tests looked fine and that she had a few good years left in her.
She has adopted our beagle/basset mix dog now, and is showing him the rules of the house and is keeping the doggie warm in his dog bed. They sleep together every night and get along famously. She has taught the dog how to properly lick a cat, too. Here they are:

(2,100 posts)A relative had a cat that always sat on the bathroom sink. I mean ALWAYS. Every time I visited, that's where it was, in that back bathroom on the sink. Her cats could all go outside but that one chose to spend her life there by the sink. Though she seemed healthy enough she always made me so sad and I found myself thinking about her a lot. I felt so sorry for her.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)for the first week after rescuing her so she could adjust slowly...she likes the sink...one of my other cats used to always sit in it too...now the little tortie is exploring the rest of the place.

ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)Because she will then come up close and start a long and involved conversation about any number of things. She is also my one indoor cat who is always attempting to sneak outdoors. She thinks she is a great hunter, even though she was born and has been raised indoors. She usually scoots out the door and then sits there, waiting for me to pick her up.

(49,991 posts)She's 6 now, so the afternoon is for sleeping! Currently on the middle of our bed. Which is better than before when she used to tear through the lining on the bottom of the box spring mattress so she could crawl in the box spring for a nap.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Melanie and Scarlet did that when they were kittens...all the new ones haven't had the opportunity...for a year and a half I've just had the mattress on the floor...first Melanie, then Scarlet and now India weren't able to jump up anymore, and I wanted them to still be able to get onto the bed...wonder what it will be like to have a bed again once poor India is gone!!

(23,156 posts)today! I let her/him inside for a few minutes, we talked a bit, and the she/he left.
I used to have three cats, but alas they have all departed. At the moment it suits me to be without cats, as I want to do a lot of travelling in the next few years. Someday, someday.
I've already told my sons that if I ever need to be put into some kind of home, make sure it's one with resident cats. I'm sure that no matter how senile I might get, I will always love cats and want to be with them.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Sounds like it since he/she didn't talk long...if he/she were hungry, the conversation would have gone on much longer!
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)Perhaps it just wanted to make a new human friend. No collar, which always worries me. If she were clearly thin and hungry, I'd have gotten some food for her and looked for a new home as I'm just not ready for a new feline in my life.

(2,820 posts)Jake is from one of the first litters and Captain is from the last of four. Captain is our biggest cat and continues to act like the baby of the family.
It took quite awhile to catch MamaKatt so she had four litters under our stairwell before I finally gained her trust to get her into the house. We caught 9 of her kittens and of those we found homes for 2 of them and kept the other 7.
