I don't know how many people are familiar with performance artist Laurie Anderson, but I have seen her 3X in concert and each time was MESMERIZING.
Here she is with Lou being interviewed by Charlie Rose.
I saw this tour in 1986 and was lucky enough to meet her. She was very gracious and genuinely thankful for her fans. I have no idea how she feels because she has not made a public statement, but my heart goes out to her.

(45,319 posts)first time at the Roxy in LA early 80's with John Giorno and WS Burroughs. I really only remember Laurie, who was and is a wonder.

(5,648 posts)when I saw her she had a drum suit, a "temple heartbeat," a keyboard tie, and, of course, that wonderful tape-bow violin.

(22,666 posts)She's truly an amazing artist - no one does what she does the way she does it. She's very unique.
I love the interview Lou and Laurie did on Charlie Rose in 2003. A few minutes into the video, Lou caresses Lauries arm and face very sweetly. Its testimony to the fact that though he had this rough-tough exterior, there was a tender side too. She even brought the dog!

(86,647 posts)but did see her on some screen at one point many years ago. I first heard her in 1982 while sitting in a group activity that was of a production line sort of thing. Most of the others in the group were artists I had just met and we were encouraged to bring our own music and poetry on tape to listen to while we worked, it was a wild array of styles from Miles Davis to Laurie Anderson and some original works of the group members. One girl brought a couple hours of Laurie Anderson's works and I was smitten with her creativity and frank expression. It was so refreshing. We discussed a number of her poems, quite lively and oblique as one might imagine for a group of artists who worked in a vast variety of media.
I didn't realize, until yesterday, that she had anything to do with Lou Reed... but it makes sense. I, too, feel for her.

(15,943 posts)I too, have seen her every time she has come to Dallas. What truly amazed me at these appearances were the diversified crowds. Young, old, and in between, black/white, gay/straight, we love her.
At one of her shows they were selling books, and they had sold out. However, there was one left on the display stand and I asked if I could buy it, which they sold me.
This was probably when Lou and Laurie were starting to be an item. Lou was in the lobby, I spoke to him, however, he did not respond. I thought he was a bit snobbish.
Laurie, came out and she signed my book. I asked her to sign it to the Invisible College which is my band's name. She mentioned how much she liked the name.
Laurie, Listen To My HeartBeat! May the Cosmic be with you always.

(7,242 posts)It was quite a surprise when she and Lou hitched up, but I'm glad they had a long time together.
My first exposure to her was the single "O Superman" back in 1981, which was way ahead of its time and still stands up well now.

William Burroughs, the poet, did the backing vocals on that track.
Correction...it was the alternative take, Sharkey's Night, that had William Burroughs on vox.
Other personel on the album were Adrian Belew, Peter Gabriel (also a co-producer) and Phoebe Snow.

(6,896 posts)it was ironic to see someone hauled out of a performance at Bimbo's for a more severe dysfunction.
