Ted Cruz Continues Fight For Texas Anti-Abortion Law Ruled Unconstitutional

General Pickett says hello Ted.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said he doesn't accept Monday's federal court declaration that part of a new Texas abortion law that required doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals is unconstitutional.

"Texas passed commonsense legislation to protect the health of women and their unborn children," Cruz said in a statement. "This law is constitutional and consistent with U.S. Supreme Court precedent protecting the life and health of the mother and child. I hope the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will uphold Texas' reasonable law."

Cruz is staunchly anti-abortion. He disseminated inaccurate birth control information at the 2013 Values Voter Summit, where he misleadingly told the crowd that Obamacare forces Christian businesses to offer employees "abortifacients" or pay millions in fees.

either the health of the mother or child.

1. The Doctors at clinics cannot get admitting privileges usually because they don't refer enough business (apparently there is sort of a quota)
2. If a Doctor did have admitting privileges, all that would happen upon arrival is the individual would be turned over to a specialist.
3. Opponents of the bill include: The Journal of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Hospital Association and The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
4. The Texas bill forced a woman to be in the presence of a Doctor to take abortifacients. Currently they are allowed to be taken via a skype type consultation. The reasoning for this, the Texas Republicans claim is risk of side effects. Viagra has five times the incidence of side effects but no regulation there.

The bill was draconian and did not help a woman's health. While I'm sure most of you weren't fooled, I thought I'd add some details.
