Obama, Rush tangle over Sandra Fluke

President Obama invoked his two daughters Malia and Sasha as one of the main reasons that he decided to call Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke last week.

"The reason I called Ms. Fluke is because I thought about Malia and Sasha and one of the things that I want them to do as they get older is to engage in issues they care about, even ones that I may not agree with the on," Obama said during a press conference Tuesday. "And I don't want them attacked or called horrible names because they're being good citizens."

Fluke and conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh have been ensnared in a war of words after Limbaugh called the contraception activist a "slut" for her testimony before Congress. Obama elevated the issue even further when he called Fluke last week and the White House condemned Limbaugh's remarks. Since then, advertisers have been fleeing the Limbaugh show despite a Saturday apology and even GOP candidates are distancing themselves.

"All decent folks can agree that the remarks that were made don't have any place in the public discourse," Obama said. "We want to send a message to all our young people being part of the democracy involves argument and disagreements and debate. We want you to be engaged. And there's a way to do it that doesn't involve you being demeaned and insulted. Particularly when you're a private citizen."

or adviser who makes an outrageous remark (remember, Obama got heat for a person's "anti-Catholic" remarks) ...

and remind Mitt Romney that, although he doesn't have controlling interest in Clear Channel (but Mitt's Bain Capital has a 49% stake, I believe), Bain Capital does have enough stock influence to put pressure on Clear Channel to rein in a bad apple ...
