<snip>
The Met Office last night extended a severe weather warning, amid fears of hurricane-force winds of up to 100mph.

Forecaster Dan Williams said a “very serious situation” could trigger widespread destruction tomorrow going into Monday.

He urged against nonessential travel, saying: “We are looking at a very severe storm to hit the UK.”

The Government forecasters have not ruled out issuing a very rare red “take action” warning – reserved for the worst maximum severity storms – today or tomorrow.

Monday across the South, including Wales, London, Devon, Cornwall, then up to Norfolk, East Anglia and on to the Midlands.

Gales are expected to reach 90mph while coastal areas could see gusts of more than 100mph.

The perfect storm is likely to start brewing in the coming hours as two weather systems collide over the Atlantic, said Mr Williams.

Sadly, that is one of the things that irritates the shit out of me the most. But then as a person of color maybe I should support England...slavery might have ended several centuries earlier.

England was abusive to my folks.
That said I have lots of cousins and friends in England so I hope they stay safe.

.....and that is one of the primary reasons it ended in 1833 in the Empire. And not to mention that for a long while now, British race relations haven't been nearly as problematic as they were & still are in this country.

the 1780s had way more to do with both the Haitian Revolution and the Emancipation of my ancestors. Check out what hurricane season 1780 did to the British and French fleets. That said the anti-slavery folks did play a role.

Very surprised it brings out these sentiments, but there it is.

I was once warned to say that I'm Celtic to avoid the ire of those who despise Anglo Saxons and England.

Maybe there's some truth to that.

My interest was always anywhere but there. Anyway I thought the Celts were cool.

The Loyalist saying does bother me. I have no clue why it bothers me as much as it does. Actually I do know why...a Black person said that to me once in reference to England...I had a conniption fit. No hard feelings.

Just a North-Atlantic Cyclone with gusting up to hurricane-force winds.

It looks nicely-formed in this shot (we're watching closely in the Canary Islands because there's a new cyclone forming just to the NE of us here: might bring some much-desired rain!).

It has cooled off here alone the gulf coast, a early fall.

Gather some food and water, and batteries.

Nothing like the sound of a hurricane wind, you never forget.
