RIP Giant George-Former Guinness World's Tallest Dog, Has Died

A gentle giant has gone to doggy heaven.

Giant George was formerly the world's tallest dog, according to Guinness World Records. With a staggering height of 43 inches, Giant George towered above most living things he came into contact with.

Sadly, George passed away last Thursday, one month away from his eighth birthday. He was surrounded by loved ones, his owners said on his Facebook page.

Condolences to the family. You can tell they loved him a lot and made him a really happy doggie while he was here.

I've always great a huge dog.Bull Mastiff, etc. But I'd hate to lose the dog in 8 years.

Great Danes are prone to certain health problems as they age, including a heart defect. As I understand it the breed's heart is too small for a dog of that size. I guess George was no exception.

I'm a dog lover/owner myself, but when a thread memorializing the death of a Great Dane receives more recs than a thread noting the recent passing of NASA astronaut/pioneer Scott Carpenter, something is wrong at DU.
