A 14 year-old girl and her 15-year-old boyfriend are facing charges in Douglas County Juvenile Court over their futile attempt to kill the mother who forbade their relationship.

Chief Deputy Douglas County Attorney Brenda Beadle said prosecutors have filed an attempted murder charge against each teen -- though that charge doesn't carry as grave a consequence in juvenile court as it does in adult court.

Beadle said the charge was filed so that authorities could get a handle on each teen's household. In reality, each teen likely will face probation, placement in a group home or, at most, commitment to the youth detention centers in Kearney or Geneva.
